Membership in The Sons of Confederate Veterans is open to to all male descendants of any veteran who served honorably in the Confederate armed forces. Membership can be obtained through either lineal or collateral family lines and kinship to a veteran must be documented genealogically. The minimum age for full membership is 12, but there is no minimum age for Cadet membership. Let us know if you are interested in information on Cadet membership.

If you want to support the SCV but don’t have a Confederate ancestor you can join our Camp as a “Friend of Camp 59” at a cost of $20 per year (additional contributions are welcome).This entitles you to receive our monthly member newsletter The Littlefield Legend with news on our activities and events. Friends of the Camp do not have member voting privileges, are not members of the Texas Division or National organizations, and do not receive the National monthly magazine.

When you join the SCV you become a member of the National organization headquartered in Elm Springs, TN. Membership includes a subscription to our National monthly magazine The Confederate Veteran. When you join you also become a member of a local SCV unit, termed a “Camp.” In Texas, SCV Camps are organized into “Brigades” (Camp 59 is in the Sixth Brigade) which together with Division leadership compose the Texas Division of the SCV. Joining the SCV makes you a member of the local Camp, the Texas Division and the National organization.

Also, download, print and complete the Genealogical chart and Ancestor Biography forms that are found here.

Fill out the forms to the best of your ability and bring them to a Camp 59 meeting.
Any supporting documents you have should also be provided. You will also need to bring a copy of your birth certificate to establish your link to your parents and ultimately to your ancestor.

To obtain proof of your ancestor’s service, first try searching the web for the name of your ancestor’s unit, which will often turn up unit rosters and other useful information. In addition, all Southern state archives have microfilm records of the soldiers who fought from that state and this information may be available on line from the state archives web site of your ancestor’s state. In addition, the former Confederate states awarded pensions to veterans and their widows and this information may also be available from state archive web sites. All of these records contain a wealth of information that can be used to document your ancestor’s military service.

Once your application is approved by the Camp you will need to pay the following dues and fees. Please make a check payable to Camp 59 SCV for the total amount and bring it to a Camp meeting (you can also bring cash to a meeting if you prefer).

You may also consider a donation to our “Dixie Donor” fund which provides extra funds to the Camp for continued maintenance and improvement to our Oakwood Confederate Cemetery Monument fund. You can include a “Dixie Donor” donation in your check.

Once you join, payment of $65 per year will maintain your membership in the Camp, Division and National organizations.
